F.A.Q. – Frequently Asked Questions

What is permanent Make-up?

Permanent Make-up is a non-surgical micro-procedure also known as micro-pigmentation. Custom blended colors are skillfully deposited into the skin to simulate natural looking or well defined make-up. This process is a selective art form of traditional tattooing whereby the natural features of the face are enhanced and defined in the form of permanent eyebrows, soft eyeliner and or lip liner and color. The results are beautiful, immediate and permanent!

Who benefits from Permanent Make-up?

You fixed my friend's old permanent makeup, can you fix mine?

While 70% of my work is correcting other artists designs, not all tattoos can be fixed. Pick your artist with the same care you’d use in picking out a great piece of art.

Are the procedures uncomfortable?

In most cases discomfort is minimal. Procedures are performed with the most effective topical anesthetics available, providing nearly total numbing of the area involved.

How long does it take?

The average permanent makeup procedure takes one hour to two hours. Touchups can take anywhere from half the time to the full amount depending on what is left to accomplish. This is a process.

How long does it last?

On average, my method will last anywhere from 5 to 25 years. Clients must avoid tanning and the use of glycolic acids (fruit acids, which are commonly found in some toners, cleansers and moisturizers. Read the labels). This will help the durability of your artwork.

What is the recovery time?

The swelling should disappear in about 3-5 days. You will be instructed to keep Aquaphor® on your tattoo for 4 days to two weeks depending on your procedure. You will be able to wear brand new makeup on your brows and eyeliner after one week and brand-new makeup on your lips after 10 days. The time you will wait before receiving your touchup will be a minimum of 4 weeks for brows and eyeliner, and 6 weeks for lips.

Can I still wear regular makeup?

Once healed, your permanent cosmetics will just enhance any other cosmetics you use!

What if I want to change my hair color?

This is not really a concern when having your eyeliner or lips done. The color choice for your brows is chosen according to the undertones found in your skin. Hair is like jewelry, fun to change and accent. Skin undertones are constant.

Can I get cosmetic surgery if I have permanent makeup?

Looking great while healing is perfect! When considering a brow lift, your eyebrow design should be applied 30 days after surgery.

What should I expect afterwards?

Dark makeup! DO NOT have your permanent makeup applied right before any major events. Wait 5 days for eyeliner and brows and 10 days for any lip procedure. The area will be tender and swollen for a few days. The color will oxidize immediately after the procedure and look too dark. This is good! It can mean less of a touch-up. The area will peel leaving less intense color within days. Book your follow-up appointment 4 to 6 weeks after to perfect your artwork.

Should I worry about allergies?

Yes and no. You should always be cautious, as it is possible to be allergic to a pigment or a topical anesthetic.  However, in a history going back to 1985, I have never seen an allergic reactions to any of the pigments currently on the market. Permanent makeup will forever be a wonderful alternative to topical cosmetics with a much higher rate of allergic reactions.
